Method
At Crystal Clear Hearing, we use Microsuction to safely and effectively remove excessive earwax. Unlike traditional water syringing, microsuction is a gentler method that reduces the risk of infection and discomfort, ensuring a safer and more comfortable experience.
Our Audiologists use a microscope to get a clear view of your ear canal, allowing for precise removal of earwax with a low-power suction device. This method is quick, efficient, and minimally invasive, providing you with effective relief.

Before your Appointment
In preparation for your appointment, we recommend using ear drops, like olive oil, twice a day for 2-3 days. This will help soften the earwax and make the removal process more comfortable. You might notice your ears feel slightly more blocked at first, but don’t worry – that’s just the wax soaking up the drops. It’s completely normal and will make things more comfortable for you during your appointment!
Appointment
Your appointment will follow these steps to ensure a safe and effective earwax removal experience:
We’ll ask about your medical history to ensure the procedure is safe for you.
We’ll explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have.
We’ll examine your ear canal using a video otoscope, allowing both you and the Audiologist to see inside.
We’ll safely remove the earwax using a microsuction machine and, if needed, manual removal tools.
After the removal, we’ll re-examine the ear canal using the video otoscope to confirm the earwax has been completely cleared.
The entire appointment typically takes up to 30 minutes.
Important note: In some cases, we may not be able to remove all of the earwax during the first visit due to its hardness or position near the eardrum. If that happens, we’ll ask you to continue using olive oil or sodium bicarbonate drops before returning for a follow-up appointment. This second appointment will be charged at a reduced fee of £10.
